Hungry. Hungry for hope. Hungry for love.
Hungry for someone to show them the truth.
She watched us and we traveled down her
street, door to door we walked, striking up conversations, getting to know the
people of the community, praying for them, and sharing the love of Jesus. I noticed her earlier; I felt a pull to her
home. Mindre was her name, a little old woman perched on her front porch. She
had a smile on her face, and warmth in her eyes. I felt an instant connection with her. There
was something familiar to her face, to her eyes. My team and I talked with her for a while; I
believe we all found something captivating within her. We discovered that she
has problems walking and cannot move very much, and therefore cannot go to
church. In that moment God whispered to me….bring church to her, build a
relationship with this sweet kind woman.
We prayed for her, and God’s healing over her, and comfort to her
heart. My prayer is that God’s will be
done through her. She had a smile on her
face after we prayed, and joy in her eyes. There was something different about her. In those few minutes we spent with her, she had changed my heart and
brought peace to my soul.
Over the course of the day we met many more
people, heard many more life stories, saw many struggles. God is at work in this
community. During our short time there just the other day, two women accepted
Jesus, both said they were just looking for someone to show them the way. Heaven
is rejoicing. A fire is being ignited throughout this community. The people of Corbano are hungry for
something. Their eyes are filled with hope. They greet us with warmth. We are working closely with a church called
Fuente De Luz (which means Fountain of Light) I feel it’s a cornerstone in this
community. They are a very lively and
united group. Passionately they worship,
passionately they pray, and passionately they serve and love others. That is the village of Corbano.
God is working strongly in us. He has called us to step out of our comfort
zones, and give our hearts an expectations over to Him. We will spend the next month working with Fuente
de Luz, and so far our week has been filled with street evangelism, and doing
dramas for the church. We have a big service coming up Saturday night, and we have
been out all week inviting the entire community to come. Saturday night we will
be performing another drama called “Set me free.” Please keep the people of this community in
your prayers. I ask that you also pray for the service tonight night. Pray
that the Holy Spirit shows up, and people’s hearts are open to what God may
have in store.
*Thank you again for all your support
and prayers. This month we are living in San Juan, Dominican Republic. The
village that we are working in is on the outskirts of town. It is called Corbano
Sur. We are living in a beautifully
blessed missionary home with three other teams. It is a beautiful place just at the foothills of the mountains. We are safe and doing well! Much love to you
all!
