“Ascribe to
the LORD glory and strength.

  Ascribe
to the LORD the glory due his name;

worship the LORD in the splendor
of his

holiness.” Psalm 29:1-2

Have you
ever sat in church just waiting for something to happen? Or you let your mind
wander to other things and stop paying attention to what God is trying to tell
you? That was me today. I went to a church in Kinombe, Rwanda out in the middle
of muddy roads, and rolling hills. I sat for the first half of the service, a
little distracted and just reading through Exodus. But then something caught my
attention. This man stood up to give his testimony. And the words he spoke
struck me as very powerful. He was speaking in Kinyarwanda (the national
language of Rwanda), so I leaned as close as I could to our translator to grasp
what he was talking about. I could feel a shift in the room. The more he spoke
about God, the more passionate the people listening became. Here’s a shortened
version of his story:

I was shot in the head. And the doctors told me there was no hope.
I lay in a hospital bed for 3 months…with an IV drip where I would get the
nutrients I needed. I could not move my body very much and they told me that I
couldn’t be saved; that they could do nothing for me.  But I didn’t give up. Then one night I had a
dream. In the dream there was a voice talking to me, but I couldn’t see where
it was coming from. The voice said that a man cannot resurrect another man. That
not to worry, because even though the doctors can’t save your life Jesus can.
He is powerful enough to bring people back from the dead. And then I woke up.
When I woke up, I tried sitting up on my own but just fell back to the bed. But
as I tried a second time I felt my muscles strain and was able to sit up. Then I
felt a surge of power flow through my arm and leg muscles and was able to stand
without falling. I pulled the IV out of my hand and felt replenished. I didn’t
need it anymore. And so I stood to testify that I was alive and well. Despite
what the doctors said, I survived. God rescued me.

Only
remnants of his accident remained, but he was resurrected and given another
chance to live. He had full function of his limbs and was able to walk and talk
normally.
It could only be attributed to a miracle.

So this
story of how God worked in one man’s life uplifted me today. God really showed
up and lit a fire in my soul. I could feel his presence and after the man
finished talking, people just worshipped God with all they had. It was amazing.
And as I looked around at the passion these people had, I felt extremely
blessed. I am blessed that I get to just sit and listen and see God move in the
people of Rwanda. God is real and he is ALIVE. I’ve learned to never give up
hope, when you feel there is no other way. God turned this man’s wailing and
suffering into dancing. He is still resurrecting. And even though the world
tries to shut God out, he cannot be contained.

“You turned
my wailing into dancing;

   you removed my sackcloth and
clothed me with joy,

 that
my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.

LORD my God, I will praise you
forever.” (Psalm 30:11-12)
