Month 1 in Dominican Republic is over. And I’ve blogged twice.
I guess I am still learning what balance looks like on this journey.
We have five days left before we spend a full 24 hours traveling to Ecuador! First huge travel day.
I’m going to try to sit down soon and recap the lessons and laughter this month has brought (video included!), but for now an update on my darling Yakairi.

This week with Yakairi has been incredible. We have been playing dolls, she’s been doing my hair (or ripping it out with love), and we’ve passed many a mornings laying together and just laughing. On Tuesday when I visited her, not a single tear was shed. Not one. No screams. Nothing.
Her burns are HEALING. I know you are looking at this picture and your heart is breaking, but let it break for how faithful our God is. She is doing so much better. The scars and burns are indescribably smaller and better.

This week I have gotten to see her true personality come out. She’s a little firecracker with a sassy and bossy attitude. She reminds me so much of me at her age. She wants every ounce of attention from everyone in the room, and she’s not afraid to make her sentiment known. She was having us hold her food while she did our hair, she’d boss us around to come help do eachother’s hair while she orchestrated the final masterpieces.

As for what happens now? God is good. All the time. It’s his nature. She’s being visited by our contact’s wife, a nurse! And a burn specialist has been to see her. She has the best medical supplies being brought to her house, including cute little Tinker Bell hospital dresses that give her so much confidence.

Thank you for ALL of your prayers. You too were a part of her miracle. Because of you, a little girl is going to be out playing with her friends in a matter of weeks. My tiny stick of dynamite is going to get her childhood back!
