I’ve been wondering lately why most of what I’ve been reading is about God fighting for me, about warfare.  A few weeks ago, Miles McPherson’s sermon at the Rock was about calling down God’s wrath and revenge biblically on your enemies. Then, I was reading the story of David and Goliath the other day and came across this gem:

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that
the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of
you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:47

And I began wondering why he was talking to me about this. I had no people with whom I was in a “bad place”. I don’t feel like anyone is “out to get me” and I know of very few people who are currently at odds with me, so I began praying for revelation as to why I needed to be studying these passages.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against…the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

 Oh right.
This explains why I am becoming physically exhausted at the drop of a pin.
This explains why I just began bawling last night over…nothing I could identify.
This explains why menial tasks have seemed dauntless lately.
This explains why so many people on our squad have been lifting up prayer requests for renewed strength in the Spirit.
Here are 40 more young people saying, God! Here I am! Use me! I want to go for you.
And there’s someone out there who is completely threatened by our boldness in faith.
And so he viciously and brutally attacks us in ways that we accept as the wear-and-tear of daily life.
But we don’t have to bear this burden.
Jesus already did.
Our lives are stories of freedom because we already are victorious.
And in our daily battles, we are not alone. God is fighting for us. So we know we can, we will triumph.

When you go to war
against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater
than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who
brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you…For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.
Deuteronomy 20:1,4

So. I’m going to walk home from work in an hour with an extra bounce in my step. Maybe throw a few air punches. Because I have an army of angels surrounding my every move.
Yes. Life with our Savior is a beautifully won battlefield.
