(Preface. I’m reading Pursuit of God by AW Tozer. He is brief. He is to the point. And he spiritually beats me up every time I turn a page. So. “Tozer, 1” means that I will be writing a lot in reference to his book because it gets my soul pumping).

So my expectations for this race. What do I think God is going to do? I don’t even know where to begin, other than in knowing anything I anticipate will be so much smaller and so much less than what He’s actually going to do. I am stepping out in faith with 40+ young people who are just yearning to see, to know their Dad, their Best Friend, their Perfect Love, their Master, their Creator. Forty+ people who just want to

the goodness of God. The power there is unfathomable to me. I’ve heard crazy stories of other races. Still, I stand in awe that my God loves me so much that He wants me to be a part of what He is doing in all of the nations of the world.

Tozer writes in the opening lines of his preface,

“In this hour of all-but-universal darkness one cheering
gleam appears: within the fold of conservative Christianity there are to be
found increasing numbers of persons whose religious lives are marked by a
growing hunger after God Himself. They are eager for spiritual realities and
will not be put off with words, nor will they be content with correct
“interpretations of truth. They are athirst for God, and they will not be
satisfied till they have drunk deep at the Fountain of Living Water. (p. 4)

That pretty accurately sums up the heart of my fellow racers. I’ve been reading their blogs. I’ve been following their praise reports, their prayer requests. It’s powerful. And we haven’t even met yet. To see how much boldness our God has given each of us already blows my mind. And that boldness in faith is only going to increase.

We are a generation that is not happy living a one-hour Sunday morning relationship with God. Our faith is not confined to pews. Our desire is to know our Creator as deeply and as wholly as we know our siblings, our best friends, our parents. Our heart is to let God show us the depths of His love. We are not satisfied with semi-annual church barbeques, we won’t settle with a dismal newsletter to capture the month’s headlines. We are a generation that is aching and longing for more. We don’t want gaping questions tugging our soul when we’re our parents age. We know God wants to share His vision for each of our lives.
So we’re leaving all we know. We’re leaving all of our comforts. We’re leaving our false idols. And we’re going away with God. So we can become who He’s made us to be.

Yes, Tozer was quite right:

[We] want to taste, to touch with [our] hearts, to see with [our] inner eyes the wonder that is God.”
