Today I had the opportunity to get in touch with my inner country girl and used a pitchfork for the first time. Now, being from Louisiana one would think I have used one many times, however even though I was born in the dirty south, my momma raised me as a southern belle. Anyway, today we had the opportunity to serve a family in need in a really cool way – cleaning out their yard. Broken down trees, shrubs, sticks, hay and such. I was on pitchfork duty, and the girls will agree I enjoyed it way too much! Have you seen how efficient those things are? I could pick up an entire pile of hay in one swoop! It was so fascinating. I can see now why they are so helpful to farmers. Now, if I could get a mini pitchfork for my hair that would be the best gift ever!

On a more serious note – the family. I didn’t think cleaning up someone’s yard could mean so much to anyone. Seemed like a simple task that didn’t make too much of a dent. Little do I really know about how much a small act of kindness can really change someone’s life. After we finished cleaning up, the 18-year-old daughter came up to us in tears thanking us for our service. She said no one had ever served her family in that way before. They were blown away a group of young people would want to use their time, out in the hot sun, to help them. They took a picture with us and said we would be in their hearts forever. FOR CLEANING UP SOME STICKS IN THEIR YARD! I began to cry myself. How precious is this family. I was, once again, taken back by the gratitude of these people. How much I take for granted. To be honest, I felt like they had served me more than I had them. They made us a delicious lunch, made me coffee in the afternoon (Jesus is King) and even dessert. They went out of their way to make us feel honored and appreciated and let me tell you, it was convicting.

Each and every day there are opportunities to share His love. Even if you’re cracking jokes in the yard with a pitchfork – be His light!
