Last weekend I was able to hike a volcano and once at the top watch another volcano shoot out red hot lava while the night sky was filled with stars.

This hike that I was able to go on, was a six hour hike through the fields that prevail at the base of Acatenago, and then though the luscious forest that covers most of the lower half. We hiked on a well cut out trail through the thick forest and tread on top of the slippery volcanic pebbles.

After the long and hard hike up, we were all rewarded by a grand view of Agua and Fuego (both volcanos). Fuego is an active volcano that spews out molten lava about every 10-15min.

Even though you may think it hot in Guatemala, which is true at the base, however on top of the volcano it was around 30F, plus much wind chill, yet I stayed fairly warm since we had three of us in a tent, due to the boys forgetting their tent poles, LOL.

The sunset and sunrise was breathtaking and worth the strenuous hike up.

The hike down was more of a run than a hike. So in order to not fall while walking down, you had to run, which seems like an oxymoron, but it’s not.

Running down was quite exhilarating as well as hilariously due to all the barrel roles the Anna took while running down.

Overall the hike was a highlight of the year and definitely a must-do if your ever in Guatemala!
