Before I get started, let me settle a couple of things.

I believe that God gives powerful callings over people’s lives.

I believe that God’s calling spurs people to do great things for the Kingdom.

I also believe that every single person has a calling.

In fact, I believe that every single person has multiple callings.

Too often in my community (a community that I love and value greatly), I hear people pass up opportunities because they aren’t called to that location or they aren’t called to that line of ministry.

Too often I hear people saying that they are waiting for God to give them their calling.

Do we use our calling as an excuse to do nothing?

Every Christian is called to love the hopeless.  We are called to feed the hungry and clothe the naked.  Do we pass up chances to visit those that are home-bound because we are not “called” to them?

How often do I neglect my Jesus by neglecting his children while I chase after my calling?

I don’t want to discount personal callings.  They are important and valuable.

Perhaps we need to focus on our current callings on the way to our life calling.

Focus on your calling to provide for orphans and widows.

Devote yourself to your calling as wife and mother, your calling as husband and father.

Dig into your calling to visit the elderly and brighten their days.

Remember your calling to be joy and light to the cashier at the store.

Your callings are all around you.  They beckon you constantly.  Don’t pass by the whispering callings as you strive to hear the calling you so desire.
