Oreos. The one thing besides Coca Cola and Pringles that I have found is extremely consistent in South America. They’re single stuffed here. But they have a variety of flavors. I was at the store with my teammates and saw strawberry Oreos. I’m a huge fan of anything sweet let that be known. But I am especially a fan of strawberry and chocolate. I had seen these in Chile but passed on them. For some reason today I grabbed them. I didn’t know why really, sometimes in life I feel something and I choose to do it.
Well, we get back to the hostel, have our bible study and get in the room. Our roommate for the past two days has been very quiet and hangs out under the covers a lot. Tonight she sat up when we came in. I asked if she was ok in my broken Spanish and she said yes with a big smile. We get to talking and she is from Iquitos. Iquitos is the town we are going to in about 9 days. It’s near the Amazon and the only way there is to fly. We are going there to minister to cities on the river. But now we aren’t going there alone. She has a home there and is offering to cook for us and show us around. The joy she had in her eyes was incredible. I feel God is going to be using us to help change this woman’s life. And I also feel that he used something as silly as a strawberry Oreo to do that. It’s funny the things God can use. Not a bible or money just a cookie with pink icing and a willingness to follow a simple urge without even knowing what it was going to be used for. God is good people. I keep saying that but these connections and instances aren’t random and they aren’t simply cool. They’re incredible and they’re life changing and that’s what we came here to do, change lives.
Update on where we are: we just arrived in Lima, Peru today. We will be here for ten days and then we are flying to Iquitos to do work in the Amazon and then take the Amazon river to Colombia! Please pray for our safety and for God to show up in big ways!
I love y’all & God is good!
