I said it.

The World Race is a lie.

They suck you in with an exotic route, coaxing you with their smooth talking and persuasive tales of adventure. They appeal to all your senses and thrive on those that “just want to help.”  They say you leave and 11 months later you return a changed man. That’s just where they get you.

You apply.

Weeks go by.

Then the phone interview.

Days later you get the phone call… accepted.

Things are superb. You tell all your friends. You even make a Facebook status about it so that guy you once ran into in Safeway knows how great of a guy you are.

You get your support letter typed up. Now you send that thing out to friends, family, neighbors, the guy that sings really loud at church, etc. Three days after you mail your letters you check your fundraising account.. $0.00 (as if USPS teleports their letters now). You tell yourself it’s been three days and you check again two days later.. $25.00. You think to yourself, “Only $16,230 left to go.” Days, weeks, and months go on and you check your account every day, every hour, in class, while you’re walking, while you’re driving (sorry Mom), and sometimes at work. This is when you realize it isn’t what you’d thought it would be.

World Race lied to me.

It’s longer than 11 months, it’s more than 11 countries, and it starts the day you get accepted.

Every day you fight the struggle to think fundraising depends on you. You remind yourself how God parted the Red Sea. You read passages like Psalm 55:22, Luke 12:22-26, or Matthew 17:20; which both comfort you and provide reassurance that God controls all things.

So right now I’m on the race…

..Being forced to trust God enough that I don’t have to check my fundraising account in the middle of class, because I know that He’ll provide. And finding out through the lives of people like Moses that my ample failures and shortcomings don’t disqualify me from being used by God.

“His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of the warrior..”-Psalm 147:10

So far I’m 5 months and counting. 15 months to go. 4 months until departure.

To those who are thinking about applying. I say make like Nike and “Just do it.” If the last 11 months are anything like my first 5 have been, you’ll never regret it.

I’m in great need of both prayer and financial support. Every little bit really does help. If you would like to donate just click on the “SUPPORT ME” tab on the left of this page!

Thanks for reading, guys.

P.S.- If you’d like to order one of my shirts you can comment on this blog or any other blog or Facebook message me, pass me a note in class, whatever works for you. I can’t read Braille or sign language or anything so don’t try any of that.  Last day to order them is March 20th!
