DISCLAIMER: My team members involved requested they not be named, but I can tell you this involves one or two of the females from team Uncompromising Love…
Pre Acceptance to World Race:
I was shopping in REI, which was a treat, browsing items that are too expensive to buy, normally leaving empty pocketed or empty handed, and I came across a funny looking box. I pick it up and begin to dicypher what, high quality, product it is. (Lets be honest REI offers pretty top notch quality items and to add to that they have the best customer service and return policy I have ever seen. That's why I like the place.) So after about 5 minutes of looking pretty ridiculous, to the staff that knew what it was, I figured it out! It was a frechette. A rubbery funnel designed so girls could theoretically "go" anywhere guys could.
I chuckled at the thought. What woman in their right mind would want to use something like that. Besides telling a few friends what I had found, I didn't give it much more thought.
Pre World Race:
Long since forgotten I stumble upon this funnel again while searching for gear to take with me on the race. Hearing that we would be "roughing it" I decided, out of love, to try and push this device on some fellow racer gals. The fire died under the conversation very quickley, but a seed had been planted.
World Race (Months1-4):
On the race I have seen many different oddities and trinkets that people brought to either bring them a little comfort from home or to make the trek easier. Let me tell you one of the most unused items thus far has been this funnel, another brand of which is the "Go Girl." Sure a girl or two has used it to try it out but other then that its more of dead, akward, might I add, weight.
Word Race Month 5 and Beyond:
My outlook has changed…
In cambodia I had the hardest time making some fruit tea for my team because it was difficult to get all the ingredients into the small hole of a larger bottle. Well while going through the girls packs to see what could be gotten rid of we came across an unused "Go Girl." We didn't think anything of it at the time, but later I was attempting to make Tang and was struggling to get the powder into my bottle. When a light bulb went off in one of my teammates heads. They had a perfectly good funnel in their bag!…
We now have Tang and the ability to easily make other beverages 🙂
