I was given the opportunity to teach Pauline theology at a small Bible college in Nepal. On the first day, in a class discussion of Romans 1:18, we looked at what it means to be “unashamed of the Gospel,” the reasons Paul realistically had to be ashamed of the Gospel, why he wasn’t, and what things in our lives lead us to be ashamed of the Gospel.
I asked the students to raise their hands if they came from non-Christian families. Over half of them raised their hands.
Of those students, I asked whose families still accept them after their decision to follow Christ. The hands went down.
If you’ve followed this blog for the last few months, you read my
blog about Seth* and his ministry in Nepal. Just after we left for China, Seth contacted my team requesting prayer for eight Christians from that ministry who were arrested while providing counseling services for traumatized children. They did not distribute tracts or Bibles (the surefire way to get locked up in Nepal), but they were detained for “sharing their faith in attempt to convert.”
I received the following email from Seth a few days ago, and I wanted to share it with my supporters in hopes that you would join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters who, in the face oppressive Hindu extremism, despite being forsaken by their families, and under the pressure of a corrupt government, carry the Gospel in one of the darkest places in the world.
“Dear prayer worriers
Greetings in Jesus name!
I hope all is well with your team and having productive time traveling different country. We are needing some prayers for our ministry and Nation. with the new laws introduced by the government to ban the Christian religious activities we are finding hard to renew our ministry. last time i had updated you regarding 8 people arrested on the accused of preaching the gospel to the children in private school they have been released but they are still facing case in court again few days ago some pastors and Leaders are arrested on falsely charged of preaching the gospel and have been put them in the Jail. so the situation in Nepal for Christianity is making hard by government and extremist Hindu. please pray for the God’s intervention and wisdom to move forward. appreciates your continued prayer for our ministry and recent situation.
.
In Christ,
Seth”
