The time is 4:35 pm. Pastor Gregorio was supposed to show up
35 minutes ago. I am patient because I realize I am on Dominican time, BUT the
sun is going down, and we might have to set up our tents in the dark. I decide
to call our contact. 45 minutes
later our contact shows up at the house and says that Pastor Gregorio could not
make it and that we would not be going to Arroyo Cano until the next day. While
I am a little upset not to be leaving, I am relieved of the stresses of getting
to the mountains in the dark. So I begin looking for places to put my sleeping
bag for the night. Then I get word that one of my teammates wants to go to the
pharmacy to see if they can give her medicine, so off we go planning on going
to a burger place after the pharmacy. Our directions to the burger place are a
little sketchy so we ask other locals, every time getting a different direction
to walk in. After walking for 30 minutes I have reached my mental breaking
point. I am frustrated we are not in Arroyo Cano, not at the burger place, that
teammates are not doing the things I want them to be doing and I finally break
down. We decide to go back to the house, eat bread, peanut butter and noodles
and hang out. I decide as team leader that this is the perfect time to be
vulnerable with my team and so we sit down to our first formal team meeting.

Let me tell you, it was God ordained that we did not make it
to Arroyo Cano that day. Our team needed to talk things out and lay things on
the table. I am finding that God really shows up in the times where we have no
control over our situation. I am slowly learning that flexibility allows God to
do fun, amazing things and I like it. I still have a ways to go, but you have
to start somewhere right?!?!
