COMMUNITY

I have 2 half brothers only one of which lived with
us. He would leave during the summers to visit his father.

I liked my privacy so I opted to have no roommates
during college.

I moved to North Carolina in 2007 and lived in a house
by myself. I spent time with a lot of people but still lived alone.

I was an individual who liked things my way and didn’t
care to figure out how to live with others.

Then chaos hit me.

I left on the world race, which was all about
community. All about living with others 24/7. Making every decision as a
family.

To say I was nervous would have been a huge
understatement. It took a few days to learn that being thrown into community
would be the best thing I have done in a long time.

It is NOT all
about me. It is
NOT all about what I want.
It is
NOT all about how I want
to do things and when I want to do things.

It IS
all about what is best for the group. It
IS all about how
you can support one another. It
IS all about loving others more than yourself.

I quickly realized that I really liked living with
other people. Sure it was hard. Sure there were issues. Sure there were times
where I just wanted to be by myself. But the positives outweighed the
negatives.

Then the year was over. Then I returned home.

CONTRADICTION

I returned home and everything was different than it was on the race. I missed being around my teammates 24/7 and missed them knowing every aspect about me. It was a hard transition.

RETURNING

Yesterday I arrived in Gainesville, GA for a 2 week
program called Project Searchlight. This program is about helping Alumni World
Racers figure out the next steps.

I walked into the Adventures In Missions office on
Friday and immediately felt

ALIVE.

There was Energy
there. Once all 14 of us arrived there was Excitement
to see one another. There was Love in our words
toward one another. There was a Desire to
see one another’s dreams come true. There were words of Encouragement shared. There was a deep Passion
to see Christ formed in each person. There was Happiness
to once again be together. There was Enthusiasm
to see what God was doing. There was Commitment
to one another.
