God drew me to the passage, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without anyone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Romans 10:14-15
I just recently listened to a sermon called Biblical Missions by Paul Washer. It was a great reminder that missions are all about sending the Truth. We do not go for the primary need of man, but for the glory of God. A person gets healed from sickness, a child gets to do a craft, a room that gets organized are all fine things and things to be thankful for. But they are not what truly matters. People will get sick again, the craft will be forgotten, and the room will get disorganized. But the truth about Jesus in the heart of a person will last forever!
When Jordan and I were on one of our morning jogs, we had a group of kiddos join us again. God reminded me their religious exam was that day. When I asked them what their favorite Bible story was, I got no response. Then I asked Jordan what his favorite story was. He answered David and Goliath. After sharing the story while huffing and puffing there were no words or facial features that let me know if they got anything out of it. But I know that nothing done for the Lord is in vain. “ So is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11
What we get to see on our jogs.
Organizing the storage rooms with my teammates turned out to be a great time. We got to have some incredible conversations about hard topics and questions about God. Not only did this help us get to know each other better but also help us get to know our God better and glorify Him.
One of my teammates was telling the story of Jesus birth to some of the girls that live here. When one of the girls found out that Mary was probably only 14 years old she stated, “That means God could use someone like me! You just know that the Holy Spirit revealed this beautiful insight to this precious girl. God can use us all! If we are only willing!
God, who is everything, gave up His only very beloved Son for us wretched sinners. Why? Because He loves us and made us for a relationship with Him. He is faithful and cared enough for us not to suffer forever in hell even though that is what we deserve. Jesus was sent to die the most excruciating death (our sins killed him before the horrific death of a cross could even do so), The God of the universe was sent to die a death that He was the farthest from guilty for. But it was the only way. The only way that we get to be with God for eternity and free from our sins that have separated us from Him. What more could we ask for?! Yes, there is a cost, it isn’t easy. We have to say yes to Him and no to ourselves. But you know, He knows us better than we know ourselves. He is a good God and if He gave us His Son why wouldn’t He give us everything we need to live in this broken world?
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 God’s heart breaks more than our hearts for the unjustness, evilness, poverty, sickness and all the horrific things that are happening. But He lets us be a part of the joy when we get to share about the hope we have in Him when we share the good news! He will conquer this world. He will bring justice. That is my heart desire that when He does bring justice that you will be standing on His side rejoicing in the victory that He has won in the battle against the evil one.
