Here in North America, money tends to be a very private issue. We are taught that money is not a polite topic for public conversations. We are taught to not ask about how much a person makes or how much a person has. In some ways this is good… it’s can be helpful to not know a person’s financial standpoint so that you can just see them as a person just like you. However, it can also be a wall that is built up around us… hiding part of ourselves. To create an intense, open, and vulnerable community, this is one area that needs to become an open topic of conversation.
As you are discussing fundraising, make it a practice to be open about dollar amounts. Volunteer information to help break down those walls. Then, as you feel that fleshly part of you rising up – “They got that much! Man… I’m so jealous” or “Ooo… I have more than them… I’m so much better” – submit that part of you to God to grow.
Next month we will begin posting the amount of support each of you have. If you don’t want your support posted, please email me and let’s talk about this BEFOFRE OCTOBER 26!!!
