Racers,
As you are working through what to pack… what is really worth bringing… many of you are thinking about laptops. Problem: laptops are too expensive, heavy, and prone to being ripped off. There is an alternative that we are currently testing.
Our initial research points to the Palm TX and ThinkOutside Keyboard. This would provide a smaller, less weighty option that’s cheaper while still being able to blog and connect to the internet. The key is having wi-fi and USB on the Palm and this keyboard gets consistently good reviews (unlike the Palm keyboard).
Currently a few of the Racers have these to test drive them on the road. So far they have said the pros include that they are handy to have and they really do work well. The cons are that the Palm alone is useless. You definitely need the keyboard. They also agree it’s much more helpful to have a computer on the team to use in conjunction with the Palm. If everyone brought Palm Pilots and no computers, they would not work as well.
