I have a question that I think would be good for discussion. I’m not sure that this is an appropriate place to put it (and if not – Laura, feel free to remove it), but I think that it would be good to hear everyone’s opinions on it – maybe it might allow us to grow as a team in some way.
I’ve been reading Heidi and Rolland Baker’s book Always Enough. I read another book of theirs last week. I have also read Heavenly Man. All of these books and their stories have gotten me to really thinking… and maybe this is just a hard concept for me to grasp because, well, I’ve never been overseas doing ministry and I’m used to what goes on here in the States, but…
Are people really that receptive to the Gospel? In the testimonies that I read about, these people are accepting Jesus left and right. It’s one simple explanation about who Jesus is and what he did for us and people are on their knees repenting and asking him into their lives.
Is it really that easy?
Maybe some of you can shed some light on this for me – some of you more experienced missionaries. But is anybody else blown away by this reality? Does anybody else wish that it was that easy in America? I know that I do. It seems that every time I explain the Gospel to someone here, there’s a lot of doubt involved from their end… or maybe it’s mine because I don’t always believe that they’re going to be receptive. Maybe it’s because we’re an ‘intellectual’ society that tries to reason everything out. I’m not sure.
I’m just curious though. I’ll probably find out the answer to my questions soon enough – just a few more months, but I’m really curious (from people that I kind of know) as to what some of your experiences are. I hear a lot of success stories, especially the ones that I read in these books. I’m just really struggling with this right now.
That is all. I’d appreciate it if we could dialog with the above.
