I e-mailed a few questions to Laura and I thought I would share her answers in case any of you had the same questions.
What
documents and copies of
documents
do we need to take with us and what do we leave behind? [like a copy of your passport, how about insurance information, POA,
etc….]
Documents
– Have your original passport and yellow fever certificate on you and available
when traveling. Have a copy of both of those in your luggage. I would save a
copy of your other documents (poa, insurance, etc.) to your personal laptop or
in your email but you do not need to carry them. Should you need them, we will
have a copy we can fax to you or you can print them off from your email.
How
many
shirts
did everyone take?
How many tank tops? I noticed on the dress code it said no tank tops but in
pictures on people’s websites lots of people are wearing them.
And people don’t seem
to be wearing very dressy things or many
skirts
but the handbook
says we’ll be in them 50% of the time probably.
Clothes
– Many ’06 Racers actually said they should’ve started the trip with one outfit
and just bought stuff along the way. Clothes are in abundance, cheap, and way
cute. If you like clothes shopping… pad your personal account. You’ll also be
able to replace basic clothes as you need. Tank tops really are against the
rules despite what you see on pictures. If you choose to take them, please be
sure you neither jeopardize local ministry nor post pictures with them. I would
take 7 days worth of clothing and 2 weeks worth of underwear. Skirts are all you
can wear in many middle eastern countries and must be worn to religious
functions in south and central america, so since the past two teams have not
been to the middle east they haven’t been wearing those yet. You need to have
enough skirts to get you started. And then if you need more they can be
purchased in country.
If I
raise over more than my set goal
,
can I choose where to send the extra
money (to help fellow teammates out
with
fund raising or to
give or buy things to give to people in other countries around me). Or once I
raise my money, do my supporters specifically have to
send it to a certain
account?
I
know this issue can be confusing. Once you have raised all your trip money and
the money that you will reimburse yourself for pre-trip expenses, the money that
comes into your support account will be used at AIM’s discretion. You cannot
specifically designate where it goes. However, you can have your supporters
begin sending in donations on behalf of someone else, or into the general
ministry fund. The General Fund is used for scholarships for Racers and for
World Race ministry projects.
Hope this helps you as much as it did me!
