Guys, I was talking to my best friend, Lorena, last night and found out that my friend Matt St.James from college has been in the hospital for nearly a month now. Apparently he collapsed at a track practice and his heart stopped beating. After 10 minutes his coach was able to get it beating again, but that’s a long time to be clinically dead. They kept him heavily sedated for the first week or so, but not now. His chances of surviving it are slim, and if he does, he’ll have severe retardation. Currently he is allowed to have visitors, and though he makes no response, the doctors say he can hear, and maybe even understand what people say. He is also doing something called “posturing,” where the muscles tense up constricting your arms and legs–basically you assume fetal position. Lorena went with a couple other people to see him and said that he looks like a sick little boy, weighing in at 105 lbs. right now, and he has one arm constricted to his chest as well as both of his knees. While they were talking tears came to his eyes and the doctors aren’t sure whether that’s just a reaction or if he genuinely was crying. He and his family are strong Christians (praise God!), and his family is very at peace about the situation. Please keep the St. James family in your prayers.
