Just a few things I was talking about with Sarah yesterday. Thought I’d share it with the rest of you:
Thailand will be in the tail end of rainy season when we arrive. This also means the beginning of cold season. In the cities and towns cold season will only reach a low of about 65 degrees. However, in the villages in the mountains, it can get quite a bit colder, so bring sweaters/hoodies.
Healthcare in the cities in Thailand is great. It is certainly not like our “posh” hospitals and dentists here in the states, but the emergency ward is extremely prompt and I have never had any issues in the 10 years of living there. I am hoping to get the rest of my vaccinations there, as they will be cheaper. I’ll have to check with AIM about that, though. Antibiotics are over the counter, so you don’t need to visit the doctor if you know you just have a cold/flu.
We’ll probably learn this in our first “cultural” training there, but some of the most important things i ever learned there were to
not point or touch things with your feet. This includes holding the door with your foot, pointing at an item on the bottom shelf, grabbing a dropped object off the floor, etc. Also, it is acceptable to pick your nose (with your pinky), but when you “clean” or pick at your teeth, always make sure your other hand is covering any visibility of your mouth. :0)
