“You are my Jif, my Peter Pan, my Skippy. You are my peanut butter” – God
This past week was women’s week here at Adventures in Missions.
The guys left for a camping trip while us women stayed back to learn more about Adventure in Missions’ Beauty for Ashes Ministry.
Beauty for Ashes exists to share God’s restoration, hope, and healing with women through ministry and training by creating safe spaces for women to encounter the hope and healing of Jesus.
Since the time we have completed our Beauty for Ashes training, we are now able to successfully host these retreats for women overseas. However, before we participated in the training, we got to participate in the retreat itself.
To fill y’all in- A typical session on the retreat looks like 10-12 min of listening to the speaker, 5 ish minutes of spending one-on-one time with the Lord, and then some time with a small group to share anything the Lord revealed to you during the session.
One of the last sessions we sat in on was about worth. After Betty, our speaker, talked for the standard ten to twelve minutes, she prayed us out and left us with the question, “Lord, what am I worth to you”?
I sat with Him. It wasn’t until literally three solid seconds later when I heard “peanut butter”. My first thought?– “Ha! Definitely my stomach speaking, not the Lord.”
However, Betty told us to not dismiss the first thing that popped into our heads.
So I sat on it with Him. “Why peanut butter”?
Boom! It hit me.
Flash back to a week ago today; I had asked a question on my instagram story. It read something along the lines of, “What do y’all want to know about anything World Race”?
In the mixture of some deep, some fun, and some light-hearted questions, my dad asked, “What is one thing at training camp that is worth more than gold”?
I realized that if I were to ask each person at training camp I would get a different answer. So I decided to ask other world racers that same question– “What is one thing at training camp that is worth more than gold”?
Besides a few miscellaneous answers, every other answer consisted of the word “peanut butter!!!”.
As odd as it sounds, we have to remember our God has a sense of humor too. He could have easily told me “Taylor, you are worth more than gold”. Instead, He said “You are my Jif, my Peter Pan, my Skippy. You are my peanut butter”.
Our God is the God of relationships. He craves to sit down and talk with us. I encourage you to do the same. I get it. Sitting down in the silence is not easy. It can be distracting, grow boring, or make you sleepy. However, it is beyond rewarding.
I’ll leave you with this– Proverbs 4:20. “My child, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.”
