Samaritan’s Purse Photo Dump!

During the first two weeks of November, squad E served with Samaritan’s Purse for those affected by Hurricane Sally. My team and I traveled to Pensacola, FL from Foley, AL every day for those two weeks. Here are some photos from the trip along with some sweet stories about the homeowners whom we worked with.

Robert (in black) and my team. This was the first home we served when we arrived in Florida back in early November. We spent the majority of the day tarping his roof, removing fallen debris, and maintaining his overgrown yard. Every year Robert and his wife (not pictured) plant a garden in their backyard. However, this previous year they neglected to maintain it. Though we did help with Hurricane Sally relief, we also gave Robert and his wife the necessary space to replant their garden and make their own mulch once again.

Each time we finish up with serving a homeowner, we are given the opportunity to pray over them and present them with a Billy Graham Bible. Above is my team praying with Robert at the end of our time with him.

Pictured above is the second home we were honored to serve: Johnny’s trailer. The last thing most people want to do is relive their past. That wasn’t the case for Johnny. It was all he wanted to talk about. He talked endlessly about his family and his early years. I’d like to think for that brief time I got to talk to him, he forgot he had cancer and reliance on oxygen tanks. Thank you God.

This image is of my teammate, Gabby. Our two weeks in Florida were filled with mud outs, tarping leaking roofs, and pouring out into the lives of these homeowners. But it is so much more than this picture, and so much more than that last sentence. Check out a really cool story that took place at this house HERE!

This is Lana. She is a fellow Samaritan’s Purse volunteer. On Nov. 4th, Lana took me around a few cities in Alabama to help her assess houses. It wasn’t until I hopped in her car when she told me what “assess houses” really meant. “So basically as I walk around the house and assess the damage, you will stay back and talk with the homeowners and keep them company”. In other words, I stepped right into a day of evangelism. Hearing these homeowners testimonies and life storms that they have gone through was so eye-opening. Thanks Lana for that amazing experience. Thanks for pushing me outside of my comfort zone.

On our fifth day on the job, we arrived to the “tree-pool” house. The photo on the left was before anything was done to the tree. The photo on the right was when the day was starting to come to an end. I was never able to get a true “after shot” of the pool, but I’m sure you can just imagine how beautiful it now is.

That same day, we were able to present the homeowner with his own Bible. His daughter came out and asked us to sign her bible just as we had signed her dad’s. It was such a sweet moment.

And that is a week in the life of a Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief volunteer!
