My second month on The World Race was spent in Mendoza, Argentina. Here we worked alongside a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) base, serving in various areas of ministry. From evangelism to cleaning to Zumba lessons to prayer nights, our squad of 50 was blessed to work, serve and grow with the missionaries stationed here.
During the month, we met many inspiring servants of the Lord. The base was full of missionaries from around the world. From England, Venezuela, The United States, and more, we had the joy to learn from full time missionaries, who have sacrificed their whole lives to bring the Gospel to people in Mendoza and beyond! While each interaction was inspiring, I met and especially connected with one beautiful servant. Elizabeth Gimenez, or as she is known on the base: Ellie.
Ellie has been serving at YWAM Mendoza for almost 15 years. She is a part of the leadership team and took place in founding the base in Mendoza. While Ellie has her hands in many jobs and roles on base (did I mention she’s a seamstress and handmade a wedding dress for a Bride here on base?!), her passion lies in one specific area: “To train leaders and teach them how to dream.” Ellie has a heart for discipleship and pursues the hearts of young leaders on base, and beyond! As a resident of the YWAM Mendoza base for only three weeks, I can attest to this! Ellie welcomed me into her cozy home, taught me about her missionary experiences and encouraged me in God’s calling for my life. Ellie also has the gift of creating and beautifying things. This is made known in her beautiful fashion creations and amidst her creativity in ministry. She is notorious for leaving a place better than she found it.
I can so clearly see Jesus in Ellie. Her passion for young leaders reminds me of His sermons and teachings. Her creativity reminds me of the work of His hands. Her gentle and intentional care for others reminds me of His kneeling to wash the disciples’ feet. Her sacrificial life reminds me of His choice to die on a cross. And her boldness as a missionary reminds me of His power in walking out of the grave! Ellie is a beautiful servant of the Lord and a vital tool in the building of His Kingdom.
It was a unique and special blessing to spend time with Ellie during the month. I will forever treasure the conversations we shared, the lessons learned from her walk and the taste of GOOD coffee that she graciously made. May your work be a reflection of our King and may it be powerful in building the Kingdom. He moves mightily in our weakness and in our insufficiency. His love shines through our gifts and our work will bring glory His name.
One last praise note: I AM FULLY FUNDED for the rest of The World Race!!!!! A BIG thank you to all those who have financially supported me and joined in prayer for God’s provision! Thank you thank you thank YOU! God is faithful.
I am now at a new home in Bolivia, preparing to teach English, sports and the Gospel to some eager children. Please pray for our new ministry here with the Compassion children. I look forward to writing more about all that God is doing!
