As many of you know, I’m an artist.

(That’s me & my team)

On this trip, one way I serve people and spread God’s love has been through art. It’s been so sweet to have my talent as a gift from God reveal itself to be a gift to others. It’s just that people are so happy as a result of my art, and I know that by sharing it, I am kindling something beautiful; so it has become my own form of ministry.

  • On the Race, this has surfaced in many ways. The most common is the portraits I draw and give away. I feel these are my way of letting people know that they are seen, that they are wonderful. Their Creator sees them through lenses of love, & through the drawings I try to show them that I do, too.

(The first is a girl at the orphanage in Zimb who is like a quirky little sister of mine. The other is a mother and her daughters I met back in Nepal. Their testimony is something out of this world. I’ll talk about them in my blogpost ‘church in the clouds’ )

  • I’ve also taught a lot of art lessons at this point. The kids really love following along as I break a dog or cat down into steps they can copy. Just tonight one of the boys – a phenomenal little artist all on his own – asked for a lesson and we drew a dragon together. I love that I can spend time with them this way. I also like that I can show them that someone has time for them and is patient with them; willing to be encouraging if pictures don’t turn out precise.

  • and lastly, this week I left the orphanage a goodbye present: a mural in the dining hall. I sketched out everything on the wall and my trusty teammates helped me paint it all in time. It was so exciting to do a mural, but it was even more special to witness people’s reactions to it. Their faces lit up, and one of the gogos (grandmas) remarked that now she has a beautiful painting to look at while she sips her tea every morning! Some of the little ones would repeat over and over the different animals, and another was jubilant to recognize that the baby was none other than one of the twins here at the shelter.

I just wanted to share some of my artistic ministry with you all. I find so much life through my art and have been so amused and overjoyed to see how God is using it in his own way to reach his other kids.

Enjoy!
