Where is the boundary when it comes to lying out of good cause?

So Nicaragua does not like missionaries…

When crossing the border into Nicaragua, if they find out you are a missionary or even just a volunteer group, they wont let you into the country

Therefore, when we were crossing the border from Honduras to Nicaragua we had to claim to be tourists and not missionaries

We were questioned by travelers

We were interrogated by border control

And every time people asked us if we were missionaries we had to say no and claim to be backpackers and tourists, so that they wouldn’t deny our entrance

But isn’t that a lie?

We know that God has called us to Nicaragua

We know it is His will for us to come to this country

But does that make lying acceptable?

Does Jesus say in His 10 commandments, “Thou shall not lie, unless you‘re crossing the border”?

Are we putting God in a box by lying because we don’t think He is capable of getting us into a country that hates missionaries while telling the truth?

OR if we’re to be honest and tell the border that we are missionaries, KNOWING that they don’t let missionaries into their country, are be being naive and not using our wisdom and discernment?

God sees our hearts and intentions in the whole situation, but does it excuse it from being a sin when we lie for good cause?

Is it justified?

I dont know

This is something I am really struggling with
