Because being a Christian is SO MUCH FUN!
I grew up in a southern baptist community where I was taught to pray, read my Bible, go to church and be kind to others. It was a great upbringing and foundation for Christianity but I always felt like I only had 2 options:
1) follow Jesus and live a “boring” life
2) live of the World and have “fun”
I had encountered many people in my life who said “I’m not ready to be a Christian because I want to have fun first,” and I was beginning to develop the same thought process.
I felt like I had to chose between doing things I like (dance, hike, kayak, hang out with friends and family, etc.) and doing things God wanted me to do (read my Bible, pray, worship, etc.).
None of these options seemed fair or appealing to me.
I wanted to be a Christian AND have fun!
It wasn’t until my senior year of college that I discovered that being a Christian is so much fun!!
It wasn’t because I had some miraculous experience that made reading my Bible A BLAST! I don’t enjoy reading and I still struggle to constantly desire to be in the Word.
Instead, God revealed to me that all the things I love, He also loves and wants to do them together with me!
MIND BLOWN
In the past 3 years God has been showing me who I am, what I genuinely enjoy doing and how being a Christian is fun. He has shown me that I don’t have to separate my faith and my fun. He has also taken me on greater adventures that are far more fun that anything I could have planned for myself.
I love Jesus and I love dancing
I love Jesus and I love hanging out with my friends and family
I love Jesus and I love outdoor activities
I love Jesus and I love traveling
I love Jesus and I want dreads
I love Jesus and I enjoy having a drink with friends
I love Jesus and I love being silly and acting like a complete goofball
I love Jesus and He loves spending time with me, doing things I enjoy!
I don’t want to lay down my morals and values to have temporary “fun” in the world
I also don’t want to live a boring, complacent life
I want to live a radically fun life, doing radical things
I want to sing and dance and travel the world and get dreads and Jesus wants to do it all with me. AND THAT IS FUN!!
I still value and think it’s important to read my Bible, pray, go to church and be kind to others but I REFUSE to compartmentalize my fun and my faith!
I love Jesus, I temporarily quit my job and I am leaving in 9 days to travel the world and love on people because GOD IS SO MUCH FUN!!
