Saturday morning we left our host home at 7:15 in the morning to start an adventure of a lifetime

We started trekking up Volcano Acatenango with our big packs, prepared to camp over night and summitt the next morning

It was BY FAR the most difficult hike I have ever done in my life!!!

The Holy Spirit said to me, “The most beautiful and extravagant things in life have the most difficult journeys”

We hiked the 3rd highest volcano in Guatemala at 13,000 feet of elevation while 70% or more was at a steep incline
(Imagine stretching your calves and that was the position our feet and ankles were in)

We made our way through 4 different ecosystems

Farmland

Cloud Forest

High Alpine Forest

Volcanic Zone

After 6 1/2 hours we arrived at base camp

We settled in as we watched Volcano Fuego erupt every 15 minutes just a few miles away

Then naturally it started raining

All 9 of us retreated to one 3 person tent to play cards only to be welcomed by our guides who had selflessly proceeded to make us dinner over a miraculous fire in the rain

As we filled our bellies with beans, noodles, potatoes, tostadas and hot chocolate we began to get very sleepy from the treacherous hike and parted ways to go to sleep…at 6:00pm

As we slept we listened to the rain hit our tent and Fuego continuing to erupt every 15 minutes, which sounded anywhere from cannons being shot to a fire breathing dragon preparing for battle, each being accompanied by a nice shake of the ground

3:00am we woke up to prepare to hike the summitt and watch the sun rise over volcanos Aqua and Pacaya

As we waited to depart, a few of us sat watching Fuego do its thing when I said, “I’m about ready to see those cannon blast eruptions we’ve been hearing all night!”
Not even 5 second later…
FUEGO LIT UP THE SKY WITH A HUGE BURST OF LAVA!!!!

As we watched the lava rush down the sides of the volcano my friend Amber reminded me, “ask and you shall receive”

After an hour and a half of more steep trekking

WE SUMMITTED VOLCANO ACATENANGO!!!!!!!

Words can not describe the view we had, standing on a volcano, above the clouds, watching the sun rise over 2 different volcanos while another different active volcano is erupting

A common theme I experience here on the World Race is: how is this my life?

God continues to show up and show off
He keeps me in awe and amazement constantly

Here is just a glimpse of His beauty and creation

It was the hardest hike of my life BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT!
