My team and I are in Battambang, Cambodia this month. We are working with Ezra ministries, which is run by the ever-so-wonderful Theriault family. They teach English to children for free, and then when they get to a certain level of comprehension, they can begin sharing the gospel and the Lord with them. It’s quite genius and I love it.
The class that I teach is an entry-level class, so the curriculum has been relatively easy and basic. With Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter last week, we felt convicted in not sharing about God at all. Not only do the kids know very little English, but they know absolutely nothing about God and have never heard of Him. The primary religion is Buddhism in Cambodia, with Hinduism the next. It was quite a task we designed. Last week, we explained who God was through actions and pictures so that they actually understood who and what we were talking about. We went through the 7 days of creation, and it ended up being a lot of fun. This week we are moving on to the Gospel. Who knows how the Lord will use those little seeds!
Ezra also has developed a new project in purchasing a coffee shop. They want the funds from it to go back into being able to expand their classes and their resources in teaching English. It’s a Library Café, and we have worked to clean, restore, and renovate their space so that it can open next week! It has been a lot of fun to organize books, paint, and clear stuff out to make way for the Lord to do His work through that place. I am incredibly thankful for the Theriaults and how they’ve welcomed us into their family as their own.
