What stops you from knowing someone? Your differences? Languages barriers? Ethnicity? Beliefs?
It’s crazy how in America it’s such a norm for people to shut themselves away from each other but in other countries they don’t even let a language barrier stop them.
These past few days I have had people share their stories with me through the google translate app on my phone. A thousands words spoken in silence as we passed my phone back and forth with an occasional look up to acknowledge we were understanding each other! How neat is that!? I just think it’s so cool!
One of the things I was worried about for the World Race was the lack of getting to truly get to know the people we meet because of not speaking the same language. The language barrier here in Ukraine makes it harder to communicate but I’ve not once seen it stop anyone from trying to communicate with us. We’ve had some great translators helping but they can’t be everywhere with everyone to help translate.
GOOGLE TRANSLATE! If you are about to do the race or are on the race and don’t have it, get google translate and download the languages for the countries you’ll be in so you can use it communicate. If you download it with WiFi, you won’t need WiFi to use it!
Anyway I just wanted to share that! It’s just cool to do something I’ve done all my life in a new way. Communicating an entire life story through google translate hahah!
Also update:our time in Ukraine is coming to a close and it’s actually very bittersweet!
Going to post a photo blog next of some highlights from life here in Ukraine so stay tuned ??
Much love, T.
