To me this is a boring blog post but I know it’s the kind of stuff my mom would ask about so I will share. If you’re a mom type of person and want to know all the basic information of my life in El Salvador this is the post for you. Stay tuned for adventures and stories.
My team is located in the city of San Salvador which is the biggest most dangerous city in El Salvador. We are completely safe though. AIM takes good care of us. Although the culture feels different, it is really urban. Our ministry host is called Envision Wired and we love them. They have been kind enough to let us stay on their base in a bunk house. We live here with three of their interns and share their kitchen. So yes we buy and cook our own meals. Ay caramba. Thankfully we have running water which means flushing toilets and showers. Oh and a washing machine. Hallelujah! Water pressure (like wifi) is questionable so sometimes you have to fill up the washer with buckets of water. Its also cold, but thats okay because its so hot and humid here so any cool down/bit of refreshment is nice.
Wired has two main ministries that we will be working with. The first is a football (not soccer) ministry. They have a guys team and a girls team so we all get to play. Our team is called Gold Rush and we not only work out and play together but also serve together. Right now we are looking for different ways to serve in the community. Its not just a football team, its a family that disciples each other and looks for others to disciple. The Salvadorian ladies on the team are so cool and I’m so excited to work out and build relationships with them over the next few months!
The second ministry is called La Fuente and it’s an after school program at a middle/high school. A lot of these kids are either in gangs or at risk of being recruited into gangs so the relationships we help build with them are very important. The after school program includes an English class and a cooking class and we also do devotions with them. We start joining this ministry this week.
If you have any more questions that I haven’t answered feel free to ask me or my mom because she did ask me a lot.
