Hi!

This month my team was partnered with another all girls team on our squad, Team Parresia. We were working with an amazing ministry called Hope Ethiopia. We’ve been spoiled this month with comfy beds, real pillows, and best of all HOT SHOWERS!

For two weeks we had a medical team (3 ER doctors, 11 nurses and a physical therapist) from Canada staying with us. I don’t know what we would have done without them! Having doctors available 24/7 was an incredible blessing, especially this month. Two girls from Team Perrsia were very sick with Malaria and other illnesses. Without the doctors and nurses taking care of them, they would have been a lot worse off. Some of the nurses even stayed with the girls at the hospital to make sure they were getting good medical care.

The medical team graciously allowed us to help with their free health clinic, even though most of us had zero medical experience. Don’t worry, when I was at the clinic I mostly helped the eye doctor, Dr. Azrac, fill out paperwork and give prescriptions. Although I did get to help prepare an operation room for cataract surgeries! It was fun to see a team of medical professionals work from the inside, instead of as a patient.

When we weren’t at the health clinic, we were doing manual labor like breaking up dirt for a future apple orchard, weeding gardens, painting houses and teaching at schools. At the high school, Christina and I taught a computer class on how to make a Powerpoint presentation..but mostly we just taught the students how to use a mouse. It was a funny and very frustrating afternoon to say the least!

Each month on the Race looks drastically different so far. It keeps you on your toes and it never gets boring. I missed my family a lot on Thanksgiving, but I’m so thankful to have an extended family to celebrate with! The Canadians even dressed up for our Thanksgiving dinner and made it feel even more like home for us.

Thanks for following my journey so far! Next stop, INDIA!
