I think I have the best job in the world.  For those who might not know what I do, I’ll give you five clues:

  1. Most of the time I find receipts and boogers, but one time I found a $20 bill!
  2. One time I got body slammed by a two year old
  3. I’ve been interviewed by the local newspaper, twice!
  4. Mo Willems is my best friend
  5. So many bubbles, like imagine a lot of bubbles and quadruple that

Do you have your guess?? You’re right! I am a car mechanic!

Just kidding, I work in the children’s department of a library.

At the library I get to spend three hours every weekend dancing, singing, reading and playing with 150 toddlers and grown ups at Toddler Storytime.  If ever there was a sure-fire way to fill up your heart bucket, it’s Toddler Storytime. Those tiny, chubby humans are such good dancers (even if a certain two year old likes to body slam certain people during the Up and Down song), and when the bubble machine comes out, get ready for your heart to explode.  The joy they have is contagious, I think I spend more time laughing than actually leading Storytime. I love all my Storytime kids, it’s so wonderful to watch them grow and explore the world around them.

In January I met a girl in Leveque, Haiti who found our group two days in a row.  And melted my heart each time.  She would lift her hands up to us and ask to be held, as we worked one of us was always holding her, even though it was 90 degrees in the full sun.  One of the times I was holding her, my group was praying for a woman and her family when I was struck with how much I loved that precious child. I had only known her for two days, and we couldn’t even speak the same language.

In Haiti, and at work, I get to spend time with the most precious of God’s children, and as much as I love them God loves us infinitely more.  I just can’t wrap my mind around it, but that’s the beauty of it. I am not as cute a toddler, and I’m not as good at dancing, but God still loves me. My prayer is that as God loves me, I can love those around me with His love.  I’ll sign off with my favorite quote from Francis Chan,

“Do you know that nothing you do in this life will ever matter, unless it is about loving God and loving the people he has made?”
