They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This is true for me when it comes to the ones I have included here. As home draws near, I have taken the time to dig through and pick out the most significant photos to myself. This is my past 11 months in images. While there is no way I could put my whole race experience into words, I am opting to let these photos do the talking for themselves…
Months 1 and 2:
INDIA: Month 1
‘A woman in the village holds a little girl as we say goodbye.’

‘Four little girls in their pretty dresses at church.’

‘A family of muslim boys at a temple.’

‘This little boy was sitting on a tire with a newspaper seeming more like an old man.’

‘Three women came to sit in our room and curiously looked at all of our things. Even when we turned the lights out for bed they stayed a few minutes longer.’

‘A government funded, anti-Christian terrorist training building that we drove past on our way to preach.’

‘This man’s house is also his barn. He sleeps outside next to his cattle during a rain storm.’

‘Pieces of tin are used by the poor to forge slum homes in the middle of the highway. This one also had a brothel attached.’

‘Muslim women dressed in their burkas wait for a ride.’

‘We preached in a new village every night.’

‘A boy pumping water from a well.’

‘This man waits to sell the meat that is hanging from his beef store on the road side.’

‘Wearing the traditional outfit for women: saris.’

‘A Hindu festival takes place where millions of Ganesh statues are purchased to worship. Afterwards, they are sunk in bodies of water to bring prosperity.’

NEPAL: Month 2
‘We allowed a Hindu woman at a temple to give us “blessings” so that we could pray for her.’

‘The 5 am sunrise on the Himilayas from atop Sarangkot Hill in Pokhara.’

‘A child goddess, the Kumari, inside of her home. She is eight years old and her feet are never allowed to touch the floor.’

‘A young boy who lives in the slums by the river that I visited several times.’

‘The slums.’

‘Saying hello and giving a treat to a boy in the slums.’

‘They were all starving for affection.’

‘Large Buddha statues.’

‘The monkey temple.’

‘Children in slums are tired and hungry. This little girl only wanted to be held by me, a complete stranger, until she fell asleep.’

‘Poverty is a vicious cycle.’

‘Nepal is home to both the world’s tallest mountains, and a beautiful people group who are hospitable beyond words. I love Nepal dearly.’
