The Voice in my heart….

I believe God speaks to us in His timing, His ways and ways that harmonize with how He created us. I ‘m a very quiet person, I internalize a lot and I’ve been told I have a calmness that brings power. When God speaks to me, He puts His voice in my heart with a subtle softness that surrounds an unexplainable power. And that you see is when I know it’s Him.

When we are living for God He directs us. Not to say all I do is perfect, but my life is dedicated to Him and I strive to follow His ways and His ways alone, though sometimes, even often times I stumble. A wise woman I know once told me what she thinks Gods definition of success and failure is. She said something like this, ” I think God measures our success by our willingness to step out and fail and measures our failure by not taking a chance and stepping out at all.” I wholeheartedly agree. I’m human and I will not always hear Him correctly, I will not always walk in a straight line, but at the end of the day if my heart is For Him He will be for me and continue to direct me.
Nehemiah said, ” I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart…” Many times in the book of Nehemiah he talks about God putting desires in His heart. He doesn’t say, “God struck the sky with lightning” or “God told me.” or even “God spoke to me.” He simply explains that God put desires in his heart. Nehemiah was a great leader, He was a trusted servant of the Lord. Nehemiah had little power, but great influence…he was a common man in a unique position. If God spoke to an everyday man such as Nehemiah like that, why wouldn’t He speak to some of us that way? With persistent prayer and dedication to God we to can have great influence!

Know that God speaks to all of us in different ways and at different times. And don’t think for one moment if your not living for God that He will not speak to you. God is sovereign and He speaks to whom He speaks to. If you hear some sort of a warning or need to heed “your conscience” don’t rule out the “voice” of God. Don’t get caught up in what His “voice” should look like in the same way I have far to many times. It could be a small whisper in your heart, an audible voice, come through a friend or look and sound a million other ways…let’s not put God in a box He can’t fit in.
It’s my prayer that we would all be a little more like Nehemiah, people of character, persistence, prayer and people of action. Listen to what God speaks to you, walk out in it and if your wrong He will tell you. Lets not only talk to God, but walk with Him…put what we hear and learn from Him into action. Know that God didn’t create one of us alike, thus His “voice” will look different to each one of us, but the one thing that remains the same between the human race is that we all need to listen and walk with the God of the universe!
