So, yea, we are working at a children’s camp getting it geared up for
summer. And, yea, it’s kinda lame that we won’t actually see any kids
climbing in the ropes course we hung. Yea, they’ll for sure not know
all 34 faces that scrubbed, painted, weeded, sorted, stacked, scraped,
organized, cleaned and made this place a paradise for them.
But there’s more here…
Every day we work hand in hand with the staff. Three women cooking our
meals, a maintenance man, the pig farmer, the night guards, and the
director of the camp are here working daily. They’ve been working
here before us and they’ll be enjoying the children all summer long
well after our time here is up.
The pig farmer walks an hour just to get to work every morning by 8
am. And an hour back at days end. He’s well in his 60s and his biggest
bragging point? All of his children have gotten their full education,
through university, because of this pig farming job he commutes to by
foot for two hours a day. What a blessing this job, this camp, is for
him and his family.
The women who cook our meals work every day of the week and make sure
our bellies are full. Their labor helps provide for their financially
in-need families. They put in the hours all summer to feed mass
amounts of wily children and take home provision for their loved
ones.
Gosh, I just have the happiest grin on my face for the blessing this
place is to the staff.
And our ministry this month is to them. It’s not about the children.
Ok, it is a little bit. But most importantly, we are here to lend 68
hard laboring hands, to smile and giggle with the cooks (language
barriers provide for fun convos). And some of them do not yet know the
love of Christ. We get to show that, too.
I’ve said it before, it’s about every person. I mean that. It’s even
about you, the blog readers. The supporters. Family, friends, and that
person who’s scrolling through blogs to see if you want to give this
crazy idea a try. Pass on the love today to the people who you see so
regularly that maybe you’ve forgotten need love, too.
