Just wanted to let you all know what November has looked like here in Malawi.
Each day is different. Welcome to the life of a missionary.
Around 7am, I arise from my amazing hammock to the hot African sun, loud pigeons, and singing children. I enjoy my time talking to Jesus and then I run to the outhouse. Our lovely mother, Rose, has breakfast for us-usually an egg and some bread and peanut butter. We have some time to talk as a family (my team, Team Truth, is here with Team Last Place). Then, we head off.
Some days, we go around the town of Zomba and encourages the people and pray for them. It is so beautiful. Everywhere we go, people smile or yell “Azungoo” which is their term for Americans. There is always laughter. We walk around with water and our Bibles and share God’s love with people. We encourage believers, share the gospel , pray for the sick, and love each other. We are living Matthew 10.
We have been to over 10 villages in the bush of Africa in the past two weeks. It has truly been incredible. I have had the time of my life loving on these people and being loved on. In most of the villages, we were the first white people they had ever seen. They greet us with singing. Then they gather in a hut or under a tree to hear us preach the word of God. They sing and play the drums or shakers and dance like crazy. I have never had so much fun dancing and praising God as I did in Chiquawa. There is so much joy and life here, but they are so hungry for God and His word. Villages here are lucky to have more than one Bible. I am amazed how they can bless us with worship and we can bless them with the Word. The body of Christ at work-check out Romans 12: 4-8 and I Corinthians 12:12-31.
Usually, in the evenings, we work out, play with the orphans that live around our house, eat, and have team time. We pray, encourage each other, and seek God. God’s spirit has been moving. One night, we danced, showered, and praised God in the rain for hours. On our day off, we climbed Zumba Mountain and visited William Falls. Even though we are constantly pouring out God’s love and truth, God is constantly pouring into us. What has kept us going is the growing community. We are always in the word of God or talking about Him. And it hit me, that’s why I was always hungry. I wasn’t getting the right food all the time. And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” -John 6:35. It’s only Jesus; not Jesus and the things of this world.
In this journey, God has used the women and children of Malawi to impact me.
(1)Malawi women are incredible.
Not only do they carry buckets on their heads, babies on the backs, and cook and clean; their dancing and singing never ceases to amaze me and bring me to tears!!
(2)How the children are with us is how I want to be toward God.
They are enthralled with everything we do. They watch us eat, sing, preach, and even go to the bathroom. They are desperate to spend as much time around us as possible. When we leave, they chase after the truck until they collapse. Am I that desperate for God?
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”-Matthew 13:45-46
