Before I begin my
story I must first dispel the inevitable questions some of you are going to
ask. You might ask, “Why would she
destroy her beautiful long hair?” “Why
would someone intentionally make their hair unmanageable by putting knots in it
so that it looks tattered, frayed and altogether ragged?”
Those words
tattered, frayed, and ragged sound like your describing an old pair of
jeans. But, isn’t your favorite
pair of jeans the ones that are frayed at the bottom hence telling a story of
all the places you have traveled in them? Don’t the holes and tattered and worn
places add character and unique personality? Aren’t the jeans you love the one’s you have worn so much
that they have perfectly and comfortably become molded and shaped to your body? These jeans tell a tale of a life lived
full of experiences and each flaw becomes a beautiful unraveled story to be
shared. So just like tattered and
frayed jeans my hair is a beautiful disaster.
There are so many
stories tangled up and weaved into the tapestry of my hair. With every strand
and every dread that falls a new story is unraveled. My hair is an entangled web of lives, hopes, joys, sorrows,
brokenness, dreams and prayers. All the knots and tangles hanging there
together are weaved and threaded into a quilt-like, beautiful masterpiece. Each dread is a reminder of the people
I have met, the people I am to pray for and the dreams yet to be fulfilled. With each worn out, tattered, entangled
mess there is a beautiful story to reveal.
