Hey Everyone! My name is Tanner Albright! I’m 32 years old, and I’ve spent the past 8 years working at Central Church of Christ, in Amarillo, Texas. I’m currently working as the Youth Minister with an incredible group of 6th-12th graders. While it is more difficult than I could have imagined to leave this group of students, and this church, I’m so excited to announce that in January 2019, I’ll be hopping on a plane and joining The World Race!
For those of you who may not have heard of The World Race, I’ll be traveling to 11 countries over the course of 11 months, trying to immerse myself in the culture I find myself in, and working with several team members to share the gospel within each community.
Our route is called The Unscripted Route. The focus of this route is on learning to listen to God’s spirit, as he guides us toward people who might be receptive to the good news of Jesus. I’ve included a picture below detailing the countries that we’ll be visiting!

My decision to join The World Race came as a result of an 8 month discernment process, with a group of mentors and friends. This discernment group met almost monthly in an attempt to listen to God together, and to discover what ministry might look like for me going forward. It became pretty clear to me that God was stirring my heart toward living a more missional lifestyle, whether that be in a foreign or domestic setting. My hope is that during The World Race I might draw closer to the heart of God, and that I might learn a little bit more about how God would want me to plug into his mission going forward.
As you can imagine, an experience like this requires funding, so I’d be delighted if you would consider partnering with me in this new season of my life! My overall fundraising goal for this experience is $18,800. This amount will cover my travel expenses, food, and lodging throughout the year. My first fundraising goal of $5,000 needs to be met by October. If you’re interested in becoming a financial partner with me, you can click on the “Donate” link at the top of the page!
I’m excited to begin this new season and to see what God has in store for me and my teammates! My hope is that this experience will open my eyes to more of what God is doing in the world, and that I will become more and more attuned to the Holy Spirit, and develop a boldness for sharing the good news with people who cross my path.
Make sure to subscribe to this blog, with the button at the top of the page, or to follow me on Facebook if you’d like regular updates during my preparation season and during my race! I’ll be posting regular updates from the field and using this blog to process my experiences, and to share stories of what God is doing around the globe! Thanks for reading! I look forward to this new adventure, and to sharing this journey with family and friends, and all those who have loved me well during my time here in Amarillo.
