We left Maelonoi the other day and headed for a village called Bandin. We had really no idea what to expect but hoped that it wasn’t too remote. We arrived at a dirt road off of the main road. Ok no problems right, the village is probably just a little ways in and could possibly be paved. Wrong. 45 minutes to an hour later we finally arrived in Bandin which is only about 10-15 km away from the main road. What took us so long you might wonder….we got to do a little bit of off road driving in 2 wheel drive vehicles. Who would have thought that we would get to have a little bit of adventure trying to get to a Karen village. We swerved all over the road, trying to avoid the bigger dips and sometimes having to work our way through cliff size ditches. I don’t think my hands left the dashboard for more than a few seconds trying to steady myself. But finally we made it up the huge hill to Bandin where we were able to help the church clear some land for their new building.
