I’m getting to experience a different side of Thailand than my teamates in Bangkok. What I mean is they (Amanda and Shawna) are experiencing the sex trade a little more first hand than the rest of Nessa.  I’m experiencing a side of it though.  Where we are here in the mountains of Northern Thailand, we are getting to meet the girls that are at risk.  We have been told that many of the girls that are sold or go into prostitution come from the smaller villages in the mountains here. Many even come from Burma, which is not far from where we are going-we’ll even have the chance to go into Burma to renew our visas.

This past week we have had the opportunity to speak in two different schools.  One is a school funded by the King of Thailand.  It is a boarding school for children who are too poor to go school.  These kids are from all over and many, had they stayed in their villages would probably be at risk for the sex trade.  But here they are able to live in a dorm, eat 3 meals a day, and get an education.  We don’t know the exact # that showed up but there are 965 children that live there and  I couldn’t help but think as we shared the gospel with the 600-1000 children that were there, that these are the children that are at risk.  They have been given a chance to get out.  To learn and hopefully find decent paying jobs, jobs where they can support themselves and their families.  To have a life away from the sex trade.  To actually live in physical freedom.  I pray that they will find that freedom in Christ as well.
