This past week, Rusty (my new teammate) and I spent some time with LO in a little village called Chiang Dao.  We spent a few days with Rapatree’s family (she’s one of our contacts and also our translator).  We helped put a new ceiling in the church as well as just spent time with the families.  The first day we started working Annie and I headed to the house for breakfast and could hear people already working in the church, taking down tiles from the drop ceiling.  The locals continued to join us or rather we joined them in cutting, painting, and putting in new tiles.  They also worked on repairing the roof and adding a few more support beams.
The villagers and Rapatree’s family were very hospitable and took us in like we were family.  The allowed us to stay in their homes and sleep in their beds under mesquito nets. Our last night there they had a large dinner for us. Karen (tribe) food as well as thai food.  Family members just kept coming in with various dishes for us to try.  They all joined us in the meal although some ate off to the side (our contact Ray said that they are shy about eating around Farangs-foreigners).  Several of them even met us this morning to say goodbye and give us gifts.  We each got our own handmade purse (even the guys…but shhhhh don’t tell them I told).
Now we are off to another village to speak in several school and also to clear land.

Look at that dinner spread... nothing like having no tables, chairs, or shoes. Thai culture is wonderful!
