This month, our focus is to minister to the refugees in Paris. That is about the extent of our direction and for the rest of the details, we get to seek the Lord and see what He has for us.
This past Friday, we [the team I got to spend the last few days with and I], spent time in the morning just sitting and asking the Lord what He had for us that day. We call it ATL, or Ask The Lord.
When we came back together, the general consensus was that we should just go and the Lord will show us what to do as we come across it. There were a few more specific things – the Lord showed someone a blind man and I saw some evergreen trees. There wasn’t a whole lot to go off of, so we decided to head out and see what happened. We took the metro to the area of town where many of the refugees are staying in tents or on mattresses or just on the ground.
As we got closer to where they were camped out, one of the girls pointed out some evergreen trees. Ok, Jesus. We walked that direction. There was a gated area there that held a volunteer-run Refugee Center. We had talked about volunteering there, but it was all enclosed and had security guards. You couldn’t just walk in and ask to help.
A few people started engaging the men who were around, learning about them and what they’ve come from, but always trying to bring the conversation back around to the Gospel.
We were waiting for a couple of the girls to finish up a conversation when a blind man passed by. I, honestly, didn’t think twice about it, but one girl remembered the vision from that morning and three teammates took off after him. They got to pray for him and meet some more refugees, but then they met one of the ladies who helps run the Refugee Center. They just happened to need a few extra hands.
They waived the usual 10 Euro volunteer fee and walked us right past security and into the Center. We were able to help serve food and water to the refugees and, afterwards, share Jesus with several of them.
All because we followed that blind man.
Over and over again, my mind is blown. It’s incredible to see what the Lord will bring us to and allow us to partner in. We just need to take the time to seek Him and see what adventure He wants to let us in on.
