So sorry for the dead air over the last few weeks. I have had limited internet and what we’ve had has been spotty. Life in Africa is so good! February was spend at the beautiful Nhkata Bay in Malawi. My team served at a place called Butterfly Space helping with the disabled, running a youth club, aiding at a preschool and leading a Bible study in the local prison there.
To my surprise, prison ministry was one of my favorite experiences. Three months ago, the thought of speaking in front of a group over the age of seven would give me heart palpitations, but after we went the first time, I was so excited about the idea of sitting in front of a group of 20-30 men and sharing God’s Word with them. I had no idea what to speak on. But God is always faithful. The morning of the day I was to share, I couldn’t get two things out of my mind. Grace and the Fruits of the Spirit. I spoke about grace, how God shows it to us and shared that we can show it to others through living in the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). At the end, it was open for discussion and these guys blew my mind. They took what I had shared and took it to a whole new level. I love how we think we’re going to minister to someone and God turns it around, using them to minister to us. It was such an incredible experience!
Leaving Nkhata Bay and the new friends I made there was incredibly difficult. I think that is the hardest part of this Race for me so far. I have the opportunity to meet and build relationships with these amazing people, then have to leave them, probably forever. It’s more than a little heartbreaking!
After a 40 hour bus ride on my birthday, we arrived in our new ministry location in Livingstone, Zambia. We are two days into ministry here and I can already tell it’s going to be hard to leave this place.
We are serving at a place called JZone doing various things. So far we’ve begun transforming a plot of land into a play park where a day camp will be facilitated. We have been slashing and raking grass, digging holes, picking up sticks and there is much more to do.
We also spent some time with local kids, playing games and building relationships. This is a unique months where all of our 35 squad members get to minister together and I have great expectations for it!
Thank you all for your support and continued prayer! I am just over $900.00 away from being fully funded and it would not be possible without all of you! If you feel led to help with that last chunk, just hit the Support Me button at the top of my homepage.
My current internet won’t allow me to upload pictures. I will try to get some up tomorrow.
