“Ask me for a storm.”

That’s what the Lord told me a few weeks back. I’d been asking for more of Him.

More intimacy.

More depth.

More knowledge.

More of it all.

Isn’t that just like us today? We want all the things and we want them now.

Just like in so many other circumstances, I didn’t think about what it would take to get there. I didn’t think about the process it would take to get there. The work that would need to be put in. The time it takes to cultivate. I skipped all that and asked for the end result.

“Ask me for a storm.”

It’s in the middle of a storm that you have to cling to the only things that’s stable. You have to look to the only constant. Things are moving in every direction and you need to reach for the one thing that isn’t.

It’s in the storm that you get the depth.

You get the knowledge.

You get the experience.

You get the intimacy.

The fact is, without that storm, you’re never going to get that real, genuine depth.

The questions is, how bad do you want it? Do you want it a storm’s worth?

I think I do. So that’s been my prayer.

“Lord, please, give me a storm.”

It’s a scary thing to pray, but in a way, to me, it’s scarier not to.
