It has been a whirlwind of a week. Each day seems to go faster and faster.
On Sunday, three of my teammates and I went for a walk and quickly realized we had a tag along behind us. Fernando ended up leading us through the streets of the town, introducing us to his family and showing us his house. We met his neighbor, who gave us free bananas from her fruit stand. Our walk finally led us to a local church. The people there were so kind and welcoming. One girl sat on the floor beside us, translating the sermon. At the end, they introduced us and many, many people came to greet us. All the men shook our hands and the women and children hugged our necks. The Holy Spirit was all over that place!
Here at the boys’ home, Sunday is the day of rest and they worship another day. Monday morning, we had church. I had the opportunity to share and spoke about what it looks like to have a relationship with God. If you know me at all, you probably know how I feel about public speaking…it’s not a good feeling. I wasn’t nervous until right when it was time to speak, and even then it was so short lived. I am amazed, though I shouldn’t be, at how God gives us exactly what we need in a situation. When I am willing to go and do, holding nothing back, He equips me so well!
The last few days have been filled with classes in the morning, art and games in the afternoon, office work whenever we can get to it, getting our hair done ‘the African way’ :), and casual interaction with the boys. These boys are amazing! They get up at dawn to work in the garden and do chores. They cook (we had some delicious cupcakes yesterday). They clean. They study hard—they’re so smart! I am so in awe at how Angie, our host, leads them and loves on them. It is such a privilege to be a part of the place, even just for a short time.
Today, I taught Bible class. We learned about Joshua and the Battle of Jericho. The focus was on Joshua’s courage and how we can have that same courage, because we have that same God with us. We acted out the scene of the wall falling down. The boys loved it!
Tonight we are having a game night/birthday celebration for one of the girls who is living here.
Tomorrow is ‘Adventure Day”. We will go into the city to see more of the amazing world God is allowing me to travel through. Let the adventure continue!
