Since being here in India, one of my favorite experiences has been serving in a Leprosy clinic. Over the past 10 years, I’ve changed countless wound dressings. I was expecting this experience to be like all the rest of them. But, it wasn’t.

My first two days at the clinic I had to allow my teammate, John, to do it. I started feeling dizzy, like I couldn’t stand to be in the room, it was overwhelming. I sat on the little concrete bench outside and caught my breath.

Then, they were all done for the day.

What is happening? Why am I reacting this way? That’s not normal for me. My heart just broke for those people.

Now, three days in, my heart is growing to really love these people who live among themselves, seemingly forgotten by society.

They soak in every ounce of love and attention and are so grateful for a new bandage and some sort of human touch and interaction.

“And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.”

??Mark? ?14:3? ?

I’m pretty sure this Simon was healed of Leprosy. But how cool that Jesus dines with him in his home.

I am convinced that there are Simon’s living in this clinic. We will continue to pray in faith knowing they will be healed and that the spirit of God is moving powerfully. We want to give the Holy Spirit room to heal every skin disease and every broken heart in that center. And, I’m going to keep showing up. 🙂
