It’s crazy to think that in less than 3 months my World Race journey will be over. I’m super excited to see what God has for me next. It’s probably going be amazing.
But, as of late, I have found myself looking forward to the quieter space, as well as, alone time. Maybe even my own room? That sounds pretty nice. But then I felt pretty convicted today as I was thinking about it yet again. I just felt like I heard the Lord saying that this is actually the Life he’s called me to. Maybe not in the context of “The World Race” but in the context of the bible.
“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7
Did you know that being surrounded by people is pretty important. Actually, it’s necessary for deeper intimacy with the Father. Actually, it’s not even being surrounded by people that develops greater intimacy. It’s that active engagement and active choosing to pursue relationships and reveal scary parts of yourself and allowing imperfect Jesus followers to have a space to speak truth into your life. Even when you don’t want to hear it.
So yeah, it will soon be over. “The World Race” experience will be over. But I’ve learned some pretty life changing and impactful lessons along the way. Yes it’s hard to be an open book and it’s hard to live in community. But man, how beautifully powerful to those who are watching when they see that your life is pure and holy and full of grace and forgiveness for yourself and others? I’m tired of living in a superficial bubble. I want to know people. And I also want to be known. And I also want to continue to grow more into the image of Christ.
So, I’m trying to learn as much as I can right now to do better at trying to cultivate that style of living once the structure has left. I’m excited to do life and church differently and to continue to see the revelation of God’s kingdom come to people on earth through simply living the way God has asked me to.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
