A prayer for Penang
Penang. I thank God for you. I thank God for your rich culture. For your diversity. I thank God that this is a place where I can look around and see how creative my God is. God has made us all in His image, and the reflection of Him here in Penang is vivid. The Spirit of God is here. As I look out to the waters that surround this island, I feel the Spirit of God as He hovers over them. The warm and friendly greetings each day from the shop owners brings me such joy and I thank You, God for it. I see a brightness in Penang, Lord. But I can also see a darkness. As I hear the calls to prayer from the temples each day. As I walk by the prostitutes on the street at night. As I encounter the drunken man sleeping on the street corner. As I hear the stories of the homeless, and how they lost it all. I see the darkness in the temples covered in hundreds of idol gods. I see it in the hopeless eyes of the refugees. There is darkness here. But God, I know that light drives out darkness. So I pray over this city, Penang. That God, You will continue to pursue this city, that You will continue to revive the hearts of this city. I pray that the love for good food and great coffee will turn into a love of God and his people. I pray for the churches here, God. That they will be a beacon of light that this city is drawn towards. I pray for transformation in every heart here. I pray that the perfect love of Christ will drive away any fear. I pray that the restless find rest in You, God. That the anxious find peace in You, God. I pray that the hopeless find hope in You. That the fatherless feel your perfect love. I pray that You heal the broken-hearted. Bring Your salvation here, God. You are the God of this city. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Personal Update: My squad leaves for Thailand on Sunday! Please pray for safe travels! Next month my team and I will be teaching English in a school in a Muslim community. Please pray that those students will see Jesus in us as we teach! Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Love you all!
