Over the course of the last 9 months, I have sat and eaten at many tables. From Moroccan style couches, to dining room tables to cushions on the floor, we have come together with so many nations around the table. Through these experiences I have seen a beautiful reflection of Jesus and His heart for people.
Jesus reclined at the table regularly with His disciples and many others. His table was open to all people.
“And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.” –Matthew 9:10 ESV
I have been privileged to have been invited into so many homes with people of different cultures, religions, backgrounds and moral values. I’ve seen God move in powerful ways around the table. Through countless cups of tea, biscuits, bread and potatoes, connections have been formed, testimonies have been shared and love has been given. Even in homes where no one speaks English, eating brought us together despite language barriers.
I have seen community formed around the table. As teams we make a point to eat together regularly. We also make a point to host people by having them over for dinner. Around the table, we have shared vulnerably, prayed, sung, laughed, cried and loved.
What is beautiful is that there is always an invitation for us to come to the table (God’s Kingdom) through Jesus. You have a place at the table. He invites us into His love feast. He beckons us to break bread with Him. He then encourages us to invite others in also.
Haley, a powerful and intentional squad mate led our team through some questions around the table recently. She asked ‘Who is at your table?’
And ‘Who should you be inviting to the table?’
I encourage you to sit with the Lord in those questions and let Him speak to you.
